Not as good as Dance Wiv me but Summer festival anthem for sure. He’s got the formula now and it’s all down to house…..

I hate Coldplay and want punch the TV when Chris Martin hangs off his mic theatrically as he does on every single song he sings. Lucky then he has been replaced in this video by a puppet. Like the bit where the dad mouths ‘f**king hell’.
DJ from California. Has been making funky disco-tinged house music for a few years now. I have brought quite a bit of his stuff lately. Check out his myspace page. Love it.
The new Hovis TV ad is great. It’s exactly what a TV ad should be - big budget, well shot, great narrative, epic, emotion filled. The truth is that TV is still the dominant media consumed in people’s living rooms. I think it should act like a dominant media too. None of this product demo / slice of every day life bollocks. We can get that on Eastenders. If advertising agencies still insist on calling their ads ‘films’ and media agencies charge a small fortune for airing them, lets have big budget, cinematic productions for our sixty seconds of escapism. Digital content is still some way of having the same gravitas as a TV ad done well. This ad proves the point.
Was lucky enough to get tickets to see Damon Alban’s Monkey ‘opera’ last night. It has had mixed reviews but I loved it. Admittedly the music was probably the least impressive thing about it but the acrobatics and fight scenes were amazingly well choreographed and the last scene was particularly stunning. This is Jamie Hewlett and Damon talking about how it came about. Love him or loathe him, Mr Alban is a bit of a genius.
Deep lush funky house music. It’s funny how music taste goes in cycles and House isn’t cool anymore. The kids prefer their indie bands and electro trash now but I’ll always love a good house tune and there’s still some brilliant stuff around if you know where to look.
This is an hour long mix I did for our holiday last week.

Just watched Jay-Z’s headline Glastonbury set (on TV obviously, see previous post). Amazing. He totally nailed it. After all the negative press, he was superb. Even if you are not a big fan of his music (and I’m not) you can’t deny the man has got some serious style. It was all so slick, so professional and so tailored to that crowd, unlike the rambling crackhead who preceded him. This clip is of his first two songs, the first of which was his tongue-in-cheek way of hitting back at Oasis, done with exactly the right amount of humour. So wish I had been there now…..
