Uniqlo calendar

Friday, June 19, 2009

Meant to write about this a while ago. It’s just brilliantly designed. Tilt shift stop motion technique. You can click on the image and it will bring up clothes of a matching colour. It’s the user experience that is so good here. It feels like the idea has come from a designer not ‘creative’. and it is all the better for not having a ‘campaign idea’ getting in the way.

I like the fact you can do it. I haven’t seen it done amazingly yet. A job for glue I think.

Aleatory Compositions

Not sure what aleatory actually means but this is a really nice idea.
Colour translated into musical notes. Check it out.

The Nuts MenU

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

I’m well over the Nuts glamour model/car/football/gadget stuff and laddy ‘journalism’ BUT…this is a cool idea. They have worked with a top nutritionist to come up with a menu for the ‘modern man’, relating different foodstuffs to situations common to their readers. It might just be the first genuinely useful ever to have come out of that magazine. Fun too.

Esquire digital cover

Esquire’s 75th anniversay issue in the states has an animated digital cover. Very minority report. Very cool.

Hovis get it right

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

The new Hovis TV ad is great. It’s exactly what a TV ad should be - big budget, well shot, great narrative, epic, emotion filled. The truth is that TV is still the dominant media consumed in people’s living rooms. I think it should act like a dominant media too. None of this product demo / slice of every day life bollocks. We can get that on Eastenders. If advertising agencies still insist on calling their ads ‘films’ and media agencies charge a small fortune for airing them, lets have big budget, cinematic productions for our sixty seconds of escapism. Digital content is still some way of having the same gravitas as a TV ad done well. This ad proves the point.
